• The TiVo Roamio OTA has both RF and IR. So it uses RF to the TiVo and can use IR to control the TV.

• It is RF for the Tivo so line of sight is not required. It also works with with my IR TV to control power, input and volume.

• The remote is RF so line of site is not required. It also has a IR sensor if you set up a universal that uses IR. We use a harmony universal and every function work, it's also RF.
