“I've had this TV about five months. why can I not turn the TV off and on without getting a non responsive black screen , blinking red light in the bottom rt corner, and having to unplug the unit for hours and hours before it will power back on?”

Return it and get a new one. We had this happen once to us. The new one I got in its place works great haven't had any problems with it since.
