i have an iphone 6s and APPS can only be controlled through your phone or mobile device (ipad/laptop). I have Plex, Netflix youtube on my iphone and it works. I also have a firestick. You cannot download apps to the tv screen like other smart tvs. So, one downside to this is that should your phone break, you would not be able to use tv with the apps. If you do not have cable, you would have to either watch a dvd or use a device like firestick. I like the fact that i can use the built in cast to control apps from my laptop in case i need to use my phone. FYI i have a mac Pro. Also, let me say that if you are using your phone app like Netflix, and want to make a call or browse on your phone, it will NOT interrupt your tv!!!
