“Does the product have a faint smell when new and in use? Very faint smell when brand new. Is that normal for a laptop? It happens when the fan is running. This is my first laptop, so I don't know if it's common for the fan to omit a little bit of a smell in the beginning?”

I haven't noticed any smell but if yours does give it a couple weeks and if still present contact tech support. If the smell is like something burning like plastic or wires shut it down and contact Toshiba
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.That is pretty common. It will go away. As long as it does not smell hot. or feel like it is overheating it should be ok. My first one smelled like plastic when it came out of the box for a couple of months. If you wipe it with the cleaning cloths that can be purchased along with the computer it will go away faster.
