I've had this a couple of times; it was the display driver. I could tell that windows was there, because I got the concentric circles touch screen feedback, and the cursor worked. After several minutes it recovered. IF that doesn't happen you'll just have to force the power off (hold in the power button for a few seconds) and try again. Worst case is a full Windows reset, quite painful.
