Yes, your primary Deco unit will need to be connected to the Internet source (i.e. modem) via Ethernet cable. If you intend to use the Deco as your primary gateway/WiFi router, we suggest setting your ARRIS device in bridge mode (modem only mode) for best results. Regards, TP-Link Support
