You need to install the KASA App anyway to activate the plug. As long you're using the KASA App and nothing else, you can control the plug from any device that has the KASA App installed by using the app.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. You can hold down the power button for 10 seconds and it'll revert back to being a "normal" Kasa smart plug. Then it'll show up as just a wifi connection for a brief period of time before it reverts back. Use the Kasa lite plug option in the Kasa app to connect. It'll then update the firmware and then it'll act as a smartplug with power metering as it should.
