Depending upon complexity, one can also pre-file twice: once as scenario A and once as scenario B Compare results and physically file the preferred scenario. (Filing jointly? Scenario A is husband first, then wife. Scenario B is wife first, then husband.) Turbo tax allows you to uniquely name a saved prep before filing, so prep one way and save as NameA. prep the other way and save as NameB. Physically file better option. IRS won't see your file names on your hard drive.
