The cord connects to the Headset Audio Controller (included) that connects to the controller - so no need to plug it into the console. I don't know the exact length off-hand, but its gotta be three feet or more - its plenty to go from the controller to your head, even with the controller resting on a tale in front of you or something.

That chord is probably about 1-2 feet long (plenty of slack but not a mess piled up). The headset runs off the controllers power, and i play wired so im unsure how this would affect controller battery life.
