A Perfect Start to Next-Gen Gaming

*First off, I've only experienced crackling when the mic is too close to my mouth. A couple inches of adjustment, and my online colleagues claim I sound better than ever. So let's put that to rest. This is my first over-$100 headset, and my expectations were a little up there. Fortunately for me, this headset met every single one of them. The sound is flawless, with audio coming in perfect clarity and no buzzing to be heard at all, and coming up from X12s was totally worth the extra eighty-to-ninety dollars. We're not talking top-of-the-line surround sound here, but the price point is indeed justified. The biggest flaw this headset has is that there's not an easy way to use it as a chat headset for the 360. I haven't fully explored that yet, but as far as I can tell, it won't work. So I guess I'm hanging on to my X12's for a little while longer, or maybe making one last current-gen investment in a wireless Microsoft headset until I fully transition to the Xbox One. Like I mentioned earlier, friends and colleagues did mention some crackling, but as soon as I adjusted the mic to be a few inches further from my face, they were impressed with how clear I sounded. The headset is a little heavy, but fortunately, if you're ever needing a break, any set of headphones with a standard jack will allow you to get game audio from the controller. And, as is the case with any sound-isolating headphones, it's a little hard to hear oneself. But I've found the mic to even be able to pick up whispers, so talking a little quieter than normal seems to be a far better alternative than shouting, especially when the adapter allows you to lower game/chat audio at will.** All-in-all, these are an excellent set of headphones, and I'm sure we'll see quite a bit of evolution in the upcoming decade. If you don't have the disposable income to invest in these, you should definitely at least get the chat adapter, as it really is quite neat, and you also shouldn't be scared about updating your controllers, as it took me less than seven minutes to update both of mine.*** But this headset was definitely worth saving up for, and the adapter being included made me feel like I was saving money in the long run. **The game/chat balancer took me a little while to figure out, but once I did, I can't stop gushing about how amazing this adapter is. You've got your volume controls on the right, your mute button in the center (for when you don't want your online buddies to hear you say "Record That" for the hundredth time), and your Game and Chat buttons on the left. The latter two do NOT affect the overall volume, but rather, how they compare/contrast. If you want to boost the game's sound and lower the chat's, you push the controller icon, and if you want to make the chat louder and the game softer, you push the other one. So simple, yet so genius! ***Updating the controllers should be as simple as plugging them in, but if that doesn't work, manually updating them isn't too hard. Go to Settings, System, Update Controllers, and you should be able to update them quite easily from there. You might need to detach and reattach the MicroUSB cable (which comes included), but that USB port on the One's right side (or left of the power button, if you're facing it) makes that pretty conveniently accessible.

Good Concept, Wait for Turtle Beach to Improve

I had been waiting for these to come out for months now. I have always been leery about splurging on a beloved Turtle Beach headset that everybody raves about and says is a must have for any FPS gamer. The demo units in the store sound bad, but I figured they should be better in practice when I can tune the controls to my liking. When I got them, I hooked them up to my phone and played some music. They have very good bass and sound quality. It is also nice to see a headset that doesn't require additional hookups other than a 3.5 mm headphone jack. They are not wireless, but having the cable only go to the controller is a nice compromise. Since the sound comes through the controller, you need to mute your surround sound system or sound will play through both. The adapter that plugs into the controller is nice and easy to use. It looks almost exactly like the one used on the included headset that comes with the Xbox One. You can control game and chat volume independently, but no customization beyond that. I found that gun shots were too loud relative to footsteps in Call of Duty: Ghosts. Coming from 5.1 surround sound, some sounds were more pronounced, but positional audio was substandard. Can definitely tell that the sound is only coming from 2 speakers. There were a few times where I could hear people running around me, but could not tell exactly where they were like I would be able to do with my speakers. I finally figured out where they were when I got a knife in the back. The very next game I played was a close one that was coming down to the wire. With around 5 kills to go before the game ended, I heard a loud humming noise and "Please Reconnect Controller" showed up on my screen. My controller still had plenty of battery power, but for whatever reason, the headset had caused the controller to fault. I think I unplugged the headset and plugged it back in and it worked again, but the game ended in the process and we lost by 1 point. I will be returning these to the store tomorrow.

    A Quality Headset

I'm new to gaming headsets, but am an audiophile and tech enthusiast. I decided I wanted to get a headset for my Xbox one. After doing research, I first bought a pair of the Polk 4 Shots because I have a Polk soundbar for my house and the quality and sound is really great. They were more comfortable, way better looking and sounded really great. The main problem though was the mic quality. It was absolutely horrible. Polk says that is a software issue and not hardware, but I'm taking the more wait and see approach. So while I still have a few more weeks before I have to take them back, I decided to try a pair of the Turtle Beach XO Sevens in the meantime and put them up to each other side by side and let myself be the judge. I will say that I think the XO Sevens feel cheaper and look like some ugly original Xbox accessory with all of the lime green and bulkiness. I'm not a fan of that at all, I'd much have them all black (there's no way you're going to want to wear these in public for an ipod/phone). But with that said, they sound very good, very comparable to the Polks. I give the Polks a slight lead, but it is very minuscule. They fit my large head (I wear about a 7 5/8 - 8) and pretty comfortable. I still would give Polk another slight slight lead in comfort. A little larger than the sound quality. The Polks are really comfortable and feel natural wearing for long amounts of time. The XO Sevens can get a little uncomfortable for 4-5+ hours at a time. The build quality on the Polks feel better. They feel stronger (made out of aluminum) and swivel easily. The XO Sevens are a little stiff and squeak when you move your head around (which my friends noticed and said it sounded like I was moving around on a squeaky bed). The design is better for the Polk 4 Shots, but it isn't a huge deal. Where the XO Sevens completely blow away the Polk 4 Shots is with mic quality and volume. My friend said I sounded like I was across the room with the 4 Shots. With the XO Sevens, I was completely clear. The difference was night and day. Also, with the Polks, I had to keep the volume at max for it be just enough. No issue with XO Sevens. I keep them about halfway at most times. As of now I'm leaning more toward keeping the XO Sevens because they do what a gaming headset is supposed to do. Give you quality audio with a clear mic. They may not be the sexy set, but they are the ones that have come out of the gate getting the job done. If Polk doesn't release a patch that significantly upgrades the mic experience, I will be keeping the Turtle Beaches as I've been using them for the last week and haven't had any huge issues with them. I wish I could get the best of both worlds with different aspects of the Polk and Turtle Beach headsets. Unfortunately, there is not "the perfect one" between the two. But as of now, with the Polk microphone practically non existent and no certain timetable for a patch, the Turtle Beach XO Seven's are definitely the headset to get for those that don't want a hassle.

Good headset, a little too pricey

First off, I really, really like this headset. If the cost for this were $40-$50 less MSRP, it would easily be the best headset on the market. However, the sound quality is a bit sub-par given the price tag. For the record, I was able to pick this up at Best Buy for $109 a few weeks back using a gamer's club discount of $30 and a sale of $20 off. I had been monitoring prices for this for months and this was by far the lowest I've ever seen it. Sound Quality - 3 stars This headset sounds great for gaming and if that's all you are using it for, you'll be pleased with the sound. I, however, am using this as headphones to listen to music for extended periods of time. The sound is decent, but I would expect much better quality from a $159 headset. I often hear the audio scratching at high points in songs, listening at reasonable levels of course. Mic Quality - 5 stars This is the shining achievement of the headset. I've tested this with my mobile phone and my Xbox 1 with great results for both. Background noise is cut out and the voice quality on the other end is very crisp and clear. Build Quality - 5 stars This is a high end headset and it feels like it. Nice and cushy at all contact points. The removable mic is great and snaps into place very nicely. The breakaway cable is a nice addition with the fabric cord being extremely durable. Comfortability - 4 stars I wear the headset for long periods of time, often 5+ hours at a time. I do find the headset extremely comfortable. However, after about an hour of use, my ears and head need a break. My ears get hot and often itchy. I suppose this limitation exists with just about any headset but it is a little irritating at times. I do have an abnormally large head and I did find the headset needed to be "broken in". The first few days of use gave me minor discomfort as the headset was virtually pinching my head. That went away fairly quickly as they stretched some and seems fine now. Other Notes Just to clarify, a lot of reviews point out that there is no talk back feature for the headset. In other words, you can't hear your own voice through the headset when you are chatting on the Xbox 1. This is NOT the fault of the headset. This is a shortfall of the Xbox 1 and every headset used with the Xbox 1 through the controller adapter will share this shortfall. Talk back works fine on my mobile device. One thing I was surprised about with this headset was a lack of a caring case. Since I bring my headset with me just about everywhere I go, I would very much have preferred some sort of case option. Even if it was an extra accessory from Turtle Beach, I would have been happy with that. Instead I'll be gambling on a third party case or risking them getting damaged in my backpack.

Not as good as my X12s

Keep in mind, I primarily play Battlefield 4... that's it. Well, the actual "sound quality" is FANTASTIC. I was also really surprised by the amount of bass these things put out. You're actual weapon now has some serious kick to it when you fire. Plus it was really easy to setup. I also love that it's just one cable to the controller. Now, compared to my old DX12s, these don't offer exact object/event positioning while playing and yes, I do understand that these are STEREO and not surround. The biggest difference is that when something is traveling from one side to the other, it's not a smooth sound transition from one ear to the other, it's pretty abrupt. I mean, you can clearly hear it in one ear, then, all of the sudden, in the other. Also, when an object's sound is played from both ear pieces equally, you can't tell if it's in front of you or behind. Other times, I heard a helicopter really loud and I turn to look for it only to see that it's very far in the distance, not close enough to warrant the sound level being played. When I picked these headsets up today, I first played an hour using my home-theater system, then I switched to the headsets and it made everything feel very "flat" with a lack of depth. Maybe it takes some getting used to, or maybe I'm doing something wrong, who knows. Either way, I'm going to continue to use the headsets to see if I start to get used to the change. At that point I'll update my review here. In the end, I still don't regret purchasing these, I only hope that Microsoft does another update to allow true surround to be bit-streamed into these headsets. They are comfortable, easy to use and the speakers sound incredible.

I have had 3 turtle beach headsets now, with this (the xo seven) being the third, the other two were a X32 & X42. I do alot of console gaming, formally the xbox 360,; now with the PS4 & XBOX One. And i must say, if I were to list the three turtle beach headsets I've had in order of best to worst, the XO Seven has to be the worst of the three. I just purchased this headset today, and when I like the way the headset was packaged, unfortunately for turtle beach, I'm not playing with the packaging. One big thing I'd like to point out is the sound quality isn't the same as the others I've had. I'm hoping it's because the XO Seven is NOT a dolby surround sound headset, but a $160 stereo headset. Trust me, in games like COD AND Battlefield 4, You NEED the "surround sound" I'm talking about. The quality of the unit itself I thought was great, strong plastics, well put together. The new threading used on the cords is nice to see, especially with pets. It plays music fine, I just don't care for it from the gaming world of things, chat and in game audio needs to be improved. One other thing that bothers me that's not a BIG deal is the color scheme. I think that black and white should be the new colors for future xbox one turtle beach headsets. I am going to be returning this tomorrow, I would recommend for a great turtle beach headset, X42, although to use it with the xbox one, you will need to purchase the xbox one controller adapter from xbox.com I believe it's $25. COME ON TURTLE BEACH, GIVE US A HEADSET THATS AT LEAST WORTH THE $160 BUCKS.

First off I have no idea why my nickname is liar. I don't know how to change it nor how it got like that; I'm assuming my brother did it but I digress. I must say these headphones sound good and have great microphone capabilities...when they are working. I only owned them for a month before I returned them. Let me tell you why... I was playing Destiny and all of a sudden the sound dropped from my headphones and I could not hear the gameplay nor the party chat. I chalked it up to accidental dropping due to the wireless nature of the Xbone controller, so I plugged my controller up to the console. Hard wired seemed to take care of it, for a little while. I started experiencing more drops while still plugged in. Jiggling the audio connector from the headphones to the controller base revealed the problem. It was a poor connection. Poor design on Turtle Beach's part. I eventually became fed up with adjusting the wire every few minutes so I took it back and spent a little more on the Astros. Best decision I have ever made. The controls on the Astros are MUCH easier to work with as well as an overall cooler design. The sound is great and it does not drop audio. I would recommend buying those over these TB's. Also, food for thought. Best Buy will price match Amazons price for the Astros. In the end I paid 15 more dollars for them. Steer clear from these TB's.

I have been using this headset since its release on March 7th primarily for COD and Titanfall game play. It requires an adapter (included) that attaches to the Xbox One controller and two breakaway cables, one for the Xbox and the other for mobile devices which has a built in single button device control and a microphone in the cord.. You must download a Xbox controller update for the headset to work. Once every thing is plugged in and downloaded it works as advertised. Comfortable even when worn for hours of game play. External sound isolation is very good with the oversized earmuffs. To hear someone next to you, talking in a normal voice, requires removing the muff off an ear. And don't expect to hear a door bell or cell phone ringing. Frequency response is very good and seems to emphasize bass and mid range. In Call of Duty, the footsteps, boom through without much volume. Microphone, removable, is highly sensitive - you need to keep the mute on or your breathing will be the background noise over the game. One other feature - the Turtle Beach supplied adapter allows you to set the overall game volume as well a the relative volume between the game sounds and chats. One feature I would like to see is the ability to totally mute the chat volume. One issue I have noticed is momentary audio drop out. Sometime it lasts several seconds. I believe this is not a problem with the headset but the Xbox software. I have noticed this happens, sometimes, incidental to rapid controller actions where the wireless channel between the console and the controller seems to be bandwidth constrained. Future software update may resolve this issue. I haven't tested with a wired (USB) interface. All in all I am very pleased with the quality and functionality of this headset. For my environment this was a very good purchase.

I was excited when I bought these, but after taking them home and opening them I was disappointed from the start. First they feel cheaply made, every time you move them or adjust them they squeak. They get uncomfortable after about an hour of wear. The top band hurts the most. They will make your ears sweat. Then the sound.. Highly disappointed. When I play a game with my buddy he always ask, "You didn't hear him coming, I heard him on my headset." He has the Microsoft xbox one stereo headset. Ive had them for about a year and already falling apart. The material on the ear cups is ripping and falling off. The only good thing about this headset is the mic, my friends say I sound clear, and the folding design for the ear cups. Do not buy, pay the little extra for Astros. (or spend less and get the stereo headset.)

My wife and I just had a baby so I was in the market for a decent headset for use at night while he sleeps. I was pleasantly surprised by how great this headset is. Physically, the headset feels really high quality, the ear and headband padding feel really good and everything just feels heavy duty. The headset is very comfortable - I have a pretty large head and experience no discomfort even after long use. Audio quality is fantastic. The XO Seven uses a virtual surround system and it works surprisingly well - sounds that originate behind me in games like Thief or Titanfall actually sound like its coming from behind. It's no substitute for real surround sound but for a headset, its pretty great. The XO7 includes the new Xbox controller headset adapter, a cable to connect it to the controller, a separate cable for use with mobile devices, and a USB cable to connect the controller to the Xbox One for firmware updating (which is required to use the XO7). I do experience some audio crackle or quick drop-outs once in a while BUT this is an issue with the chat adapter - Microsoft has acknowledged the issue and is working on a fix, most likely a firmware update for the adapter. It only happens during games and only a couple times every hour or 2. Audio while watching TV, movies from Xbox Video and audio all work great with no issues. Skype also works fantastically. The boom mic is removable and the adapter gives you complete control of the overall volume as well as adjusting the volume between the game and party chat. All in all, a fantastic headset, powerful sound, great build quality and chat voice quality too. Highly recommend if you're looking for a new headset for use with your Xbox One.

I was excited to get this but it has some major design and technical flaws, returning them today. Here it goes: 1. The first thing you will notice is they are heavy, due to this, the top band cushion of the head set always puts a pressure on the top of your head. God knows why they have a thick stitching on the top band faux leather too, which in an hour becomes incredibly uncomfortable. 2. If you have a new xbox controller with 3.5 mm jack or theelite controller....this is not for you. the part that fits on your controller is loose and when you try and push it in it will give you ear bleeding distortion in the middle of the game. This is I think due to the static between the 3.5 mm jack in controller and the male connector of the headset.(it worked just fine with my old controller without 3.5mm jack hole) 3. For the price not getting a wireless headset and getting one which does not connects well and gives you a headache is a strict no-no! Do not buy these if you have a large head, and yeah...definitely not recommended.

The sound quality is great for music and talking on phone. The problem comes when trying to use with the XBox One. During party chat and game play you will hear some static and maybe popping. The people in the party will not be able to hear because of the static and popping. TB and MS are aware of this problem and hopefully will be coming out with a fix soon. Meanwhile I have a headset sitting on my desk. Luckily I have my X42's. One other big deal, is talkback or voice monitoring (where you hear your own voice) does not work. The headsets do not have batteries, they use the controller batteries and there is no amplifier in the headset to provide monitoring service. I understand this will be coming too. Love the fit, the ear cups are comfortable and over all comfort from the are good for my size and shaped head. Some say they fit tight, mine do not. I would rate these 4 star when TB and MS gets the bugs worked out. I cannot recommend them at this point, maybe later.

This headset is made from nice, thick padded materials and is comfortable to wear, even for a few hours. The audio quality is good if not great, though there are some very minor issues with sporadic signal loss with the wireless connection between the Xbox One and the controller. The "super human hearing" feature is pretty cool, and even though it's kind of a gimmick, it does make a pretty dramatic difference in what you hear and how you hear it. My biggest concern is that within one week of opening the box, having used the thing perhaps three times, it developed what seems to be a short in the 'breakaway' cable that connects the headset to the controller. This is surprising because the cord is a big, thick, vinyl or other fabric bundle. Nevertheless, if the cord is at the wrong angle, the supplied microphone stops picking up my voice, or does so only sporadically. This has only been a major issue once or I'd have taken it back to Best Buy already, but I've had similar but less severe occurrences of the problem since then. I'm probably going to end up having to test Turtle Beach's warranty, and that's not a prospect I relish. Overall it seems like their top-of-the-line headset really ought to blow you away with incredible sound quality, but it doesn't begin to compare to my home theater system, and the positional sound (e.g. objects or people behind you) isn't that great. It does sound good, and it's a great way to avoid waking the neighbors when I'm playing Destiny at 3am, but I'm a little disappointed for the money I spent.

    Great set of cans but.......

I preordered these, and like a lot of people completely anticipated there release. First of all this is my forth set of turtle beach cans (X1, X11, X12 DDS2.) I must say presentation wise I was blown away by the box alone.(laugh out loud!) Not enough was said about the power supply, so I didn't know if I needed to invest in rechargeable batteries or what. To my surprise the setup was very simple and the headphones magically work, I assume through the power supply of whatever there attached to. The chat quality is premium although I wasn't sure if I was being heard since you CAN NOT hear yourself speak (like lets say you could through the X12's) Another turn off was the fact that @ max volume it just wasn't as loud as I would of liked it to be. It's almost like Turtle Beach XO seven's are policing your ears in an attempt to save your eardrums from any damage. *smh* The bass is subpar @ best, depending on what the content is. For example listening to music on my iPhone was great, but I kinda feel like only because of whatever genre of music I played @ the time(I believe it was rap/hip-hop) Make no mistake though, I defenatly felt an advantage playing COD, and Battlefield 4. These cans are perfectly tuned for that type of experience. Look, if you have a pair of headphones that you love from last gen and don't wanna fall victim to the hype of current gen tech, then by all means just get the chat adapter. But if you a fan of the Turtle Beach brand and would like everything new and nice like you Xbox One, then get these.

After using these for a few months now, I am extremely happy with my purchase. Honestly these are the best sounding headsets I've ever had so far. The bass is great and not overpowered. The sound is very very crisp and you can hear every angle. For those who are planning on getting these headsets, they also include an extra cable for mobile use and you will still get great sound. Comfort wise...VERY COMFORTABLE. I was worried since previous turtle beaches were very uncomfortable after long periods of gaming. It is memory foam so it keeps a nice snug fit. GREAT for canceling out sound. Not just outside sound, but also from the headset. As in if you like your sound LOUD, it cancels out the sound so others can't hear it. There are 4 settings for game volume options. I would suggest setting 3. It has treble and bass boost. If you just want bass boost, then setting 2 will fit what you need. I personally just like balance between the two. DON'T LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS. "It's not 7.1 surround sound!" It is. "Terrible sound quality!" It's actually the best I've heard. Either they did something wrong or they had it shipped to them. (I never have electronics shipped to me. Too many risks) All in all, to end this review, I highly recommend these headsets to anyone either for gaming, music, or both.

I hate to give out negative reviews, and really try to only save them unless the product is trash and unfortunately, this is trash. I only ended up having these for a couple of days and there isn't much positive to say because I hardly had a chance to use them. The noise cancelling effect was wonderful but I was having a bunch of issues when using it trying to connect with my Xbox party so I exchanged them. The second pair presented a new set of problems as the connectivity issues were resolved, but I had a heck of a time with the noise it put out. Everyone in my Xbox party would complain anytime that I moved my head or my headset. They said it was very distracting and that it sounded like two PVC pipes being rubbed together. They also indicated that my voice wouldn't start kicking in until I was a couple of words into my sentence. Overall, I returned these duds and it'll be the last time I buy a pair of Turtle Beach headphones

The audio quality of both game and chat are okay. I have an issue with the stereo headset adapter, but that's a Microsoft issue not Turtle Beach. the goose-neck microphone being removable wasn't a great feature for me as I had no intention of using these as headphones, and while I try to place it just above my nose and below my eyesight, it tends to eventually drop down to the point that people can hear me breathing. the "customizable" ear plates are only a gimmick, and I don't really like most of the plates available. As of yet you cannot submit your own images for plates. and even after trying to stretch the cups apart, when I put the headset on I feel like it's trying to squeeze my brain out through my nose. Turtle Beach claims themselves to be #1 in gaming audio, but that's only because they flood the market and sell the most units, which isn't the same thing to me. I very quickly moved on to the Sennheiser G4me Zero headset, which solved all the issues I had with this one, and then went beyond that.

With this headset you can hear everything in the game crystal clear. I play destiny on the xbox one avidly so im constantly looking around for chests and resources. With this headset I no longer have to look, because all I do is listen for the unique sounds that are given off. Forget people trying to sneak up on you. You can hear them before they even think about coming through the door behind you. If you're done gaming for the day and want to relax; this headset is amazing for music listening. The bass is deep and rich and the music is clear with no "biting" of the ear drums. It's smooth and relaxing as a good headset should be. The fit and feel of the headset is very well done. You dont feel any pressure or weight around your head even after 10 hours of play. It does have its drawbacks though. For one thing it is not 100% wireless. You have to plug it into your controller to power it and to get chat and sound. Fortunately it's one wire to a wireless controller. Last drawback; it will make you want to play games longer becuse of how the headset feels on your head and how smooth and rich the sounds are. So you might miss that ever important appointment or end up late for work. Enjoy you X07s they are worth every penny.

I've used the XO Seven for over a week, they look and feel amazing, comes with 2 cords one to use with your mobile device has a mic built in to the cable with a push button to answer calls, works great on my iPhone 5s. Where this headset falls short and I think it's on the xbox side is that there is not enough power from the controller to drive the the sound and I feel it sounds pretty flat, I'm not getting any bass or it's minimal. Volume levels are not quite as high as I would like it to be. I hook the headset up to my audio mixer board, play some music and they come to life but the bass is still lacking. Overall build quality is great, mic boom is very good and flexible put it where you want it and it stays put. Looks cool, comes with an xbox audio adaptor that connects to your controller that alone if purchased separate costs $29 if you can find it in stock anywhere, you can connect your fav headset instead of using the xo seven. Overall I'm happy with the purchase, build quality is great, and will definitely take a beating, does a great job of isolating ambient noise. The fault of this unit I blame the Xbox One which through a firmware/software patch hopefully my issues will get addressed in the future.

My friends surprised me and chipped in for an Xbox One for my birthday since I haven't even had a gold membership to play with them in years. I remembered that with my Xbox 360 it came with a cheap headset but mine didn't with the One since (I think?) it was a Gears of War edition. I started doing some research for a new pair since my wireless Turtle Beach x32's weren't compatible with my sparkly new system. I had an old gift card leftover from Christmas and found out that it still had a good amount left on it. As such, it led me to going for a pricier headset instead of something middle of the road while also not surrendering quality. Long story short (and based on my rating), buy these. I play for hours at a time and they're still pretty comfortable throughout. The sound is clear, the preset effects improve your gaming experience, and you can even remove the ear plates if you wanted to buy funky new ones. If they were priced a liiiittle bit less and I didn't have my gift card, I still would've bought them. Happy gaming!
