No, you do not need a credit card to use this TV. Also, you may not need a credit card to use MANY of the other features on the TV as well. I used the TV right out of the box, and even used some of the apps, never asks you for a credit card unless you are going to use a premium app that you are not already signed up with. (For example, I used the free Pandora no problem.)
