Yes, verizon will provide the unlock code for an activated prepaid device if 365 days from date of purchase OR date of activation has passed, if you have the original receipt or proof of purchase. ACTIVATED is the key word. If you buy it, store it for a year, and the sim card and MEID show as never activated, they will NOT provide the code. What you need to do is purchase the phone, activate it instore or online, and pay for one month of the cheapest smartphone plan (currently $45) Dont use it again, let the plan lapse, and after a year, they will provide the code.
