It has to do with the quality that the station is broadcasting. For instance most are actually still 720p with some in 1080i. Things such as a Play Station 4 are 1080p. You will only see 4k on certain YouTube videos, Hulu, etc... (This is all assumed one is using an HDMI connection)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. When I bought this TV, I had a similar problem (I was only seeing 480). The problem was with my input (in my case, satellite). I just had to change the output on my Dish box, and now its 1080, dramatically better. Most likely, it is your output setting (ie, the setting on your receiver). Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You will need to dial-in your picture settings away from the base map settings. Search online there are plenty of sites that provide recommended settings. Personally, for out of the box setting I prefer "game" mode as it provides more natural color and removes the funky motion settings you find in all the new TVs these days. Also make sure your cable/satellite box has 1080i and 1080P enabled to be able to display it. When I first got the TV, i had to enable disable a few times to get them to "take" and show as 1080i on the Info button. This is for content coming through DirecTV.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Vivid is not a good setting. The link below has a good explanation for what all the settings do and some good recommendations for where to set them http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/m-series-2015/settings

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have my cable channels set to HD ONLY. I'm no expert but believe that if the tv gets a 480 signal it only up converts to 720. If it gets a 720, it up converts to 1080. That's the assumption I go by, anyway, and have had no problems-- yet. I just set up my 60 inch M series Visio yesterday and also have xfinity 1 service.
