You can turn off the power switch on the back of the subwoofer to disable the satellite speakers and the sub. It will work just fine.

Yes, it seems to work without the rear speakers, but I've had difficulty setting up the full system, so can't give a full answer.

This will work without the rear speakers. If the sound bar does receive a full 5.1 signal you would loose the audio that normally goes through those speakers.
