The telephone base of the VTech DS6151 has 2 line ports labeled as L1/L2 and L2. You use both line ports if you have 2 lines coming out of separate jacks. For 2 lines from 1 jack, you just have to connect an RJ14 going to the L1/L2 port. A:AnswerYes , just tried it, and the answering machine did answer after the set amount of rings. However, it answered with the preset message and not our custom recorded message .Make sure you don;t have the message system to answer after 8 rings. That's a lot of rings. Ours is set to 4.

A:AnswerJill - You can turn off the ringer volume on each line for the base and the cordless handsets of the VTech DS6151 but it will still show on the screen that there is an incoming call for both lines. Here's the procedure on how to turn off the ringer volume on the telephone base and each of the cordless handsets.
On the cordless handset:
1. Press the MENU softkey when the handset is not in use.
2. Press ▼ to select RINGERS, then press the SELECT softkey.
3. Press the SELECT softkey to select Ringer volume.
4. Press ▼ to choose Line 1, Line 2 or Lines 1&2. Then press the SELECT softkey.
5. Press ▼ or ▲ to adjust the ringer volume or press the OFF softkey to turn off the ringer. A sample of each ringer volume plays as you scroll through the choices.
6. Press the SET softkey to confirm or press OFF to exit to the previous menu.
On the telephone base:
1. Press the MENU softkey when the telephone base is not in use.
2. Press ▼/CID to select Ringers, then press the SELECT softkey.
3. Press the SELECT softkey to select Ringer volume.
4. Press ▼/CID to choose Line 1, Line 2 or Lines 1&2. Then press the SELECT softkey.
5. Press ▼/CID or ▲/DIR to adjust the volume. A sample of each ringer volume plays as you scroll through the choices. Press the OFF softkey to turn off the ringer and RINGER VOLUME Ringer muted shows on the screen.
6. Press the SET softkey to confirm or press CANCEL to exit to the previous menu.

A:AnswerGC - The VTech DS6151 has a Hold feature. You can place a call on hold on one line and answer a call on the other line on the same handset. You can also use one handset on one line and use another handset on the 2nd line.
