The required wire depends on how you set the unit. Seek advice on r/evcharging or r/askelectricians on reddit.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. For a 50 amp service you're looking at 6AWG wire. You need 2 load carrying conductors and 1 ground. Depending on your wire some would notate this as 6/2 or 6/3. You could go lower under very certain circumstances, but my suggestion would be go with size 6. Most importantly, when in doubt contact an electrician. If you're unsure about your install or local codes, they're going to be your best resource.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.40A requires a 50A breaker, thus 6/3 (neutral is not used).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have 8/3 running it currently from the breaker to the outlet. Then a short 3' extension cable due to the location of my 220 outlet (also 8/3) . I have not noticed the cable heating up. I think if it was much longer I would jump to a 6/3 gauge cable.
