A:AnswerSo far I've had the few "Optimized for Series X/S" games installed on the Series S internal (There's less than 500 GB of space on the S, so really you will only be able to put a couple of those hefty 60+ GB games on the internal console), and put the regular Xbox One games on this external WD Black drive. For example, on my Xbox series S I have Destiny 2, Master Chief Collection, Rocket League, Gears 5, Immortals Fenyx Rising, and like one or two other games on the internal storage of the console.
All of my other game files that are Xbox One games go on the hard drive. Diablo III, Arkham Knight, Borderlands rilogy, Bioshock Trilogy, Titanfall 2, whatever...these games are not "Optimized" for the new Xbox (so far), and so the only perk to having them stored internally is that they'd load faster. This doesn't bother me as much for most games. Destiny 2 was my (everyone's) longest-loading game, but having the game file on internal storage makes it lightning fast to load and move around to other planets, so that one is well worth it taking up so much space on internal. Even games you don't OWN own, like Game Pass games you are allowed to play via subscription (Arkham Knight is an example) can be installed on the WD Black external drive and will load fine.
SUMMARY: Games with longest load times or that are optimized to look best on Series X/S go on console internal storage, regular Xbox One games go on WD Black. (Note: Games designed FOR the Xbox Series X/S cannot go on the WD Black at all. They require SSD [solid-state drive] storage, which is the type of storage that is internal on the console. WD Black is HDD [hard drive disk] storage. The upcoming Halo Infinite game is an example of a game designed FOR Xbox Series, not just an Xbox One game that was upgraded to look better on the new console.)

A:AnswerYes, it does, but you can’t play games off of it. You can transfer the games back-and-forth from the Xbox to the hard drive and from the hard drive to the Xbox to be able to play them.
