The specs say this is only a Gen 3x4, but the title states that it is a Gen 4x4, which is it? null

From the reviews on best buy the box image from customers shows its a gen 4, but you’re right best buy needs to correct their specs information for this product.

It is 4x4 but you must have a 4x4 compatible motherboard and cpu to making it work. If either does not support the 4x4 format it will run at 3x4

The WD SN750 is a Gen 3 and the WD SN850 is the faster Gen 4. This drive is a WD SN850, stated under the specs, so it’s the Gen 4 - PCI Express 4.0 x4. The SN750 has a max read speed of 3500 MBps and the SN850 (this drive) has a max read speed of 7000 MPbs. 
You probably already know this but other who read this, the motherboard and processor must support the Gen 4 x4 and if not then it will work but just at the slower speed.
