It should be! PlayStation 3 consoles accept most 2.5" internal Serial ATA hard drives for upgrade and HDD replacement purposes. Step-by-step installation instructions can be found in your owner's guide or on Sony's official PlayStation support site.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. You should use a 5400RPM drive (like this one) when upgrading the classic PS3. I was able to add a 1TB WD to mine and it works great. Especially big if you have Playstation Plus and want to take advantage of all the free games.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, that is what I used it for, however I have the 10G PS3, and it does require a disk caddy that can be purchased from Sony and other places. I rigged something up, as the PS3 does not ever move, I think I am good. The model I have actually does not have a harddrive, so it formatted and copied all the data to the new drive when I installed it. If you have a model with a drive already, you have to take a backup and restore, lots of youtube videos on the process for both systems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, I upgraded my 320GB PS3 drive with this one. Installation is a couple of small screws, and very easy. You will need a small USB drive with the boot parameters you can easily find from Sony's PS3 website. I formatted mine using my computer first, but I'm not convinced that was necessary.
