• Yes. It'll work in the older laptops well. Just placed this in my 10 year old Dell.

• I looked at Dell's site but couldn't get specifics on your computer only generals on 5000 series. I'd say you should have no problem using this drive if your OS is win 7,8 or 10. Others I'm not sure. Preferably a 3.0 USB port though it is backwards compatible it'll just be really slow on a slower port.
