It depends on how many files, and what size you need to save - and what size storage product you choose. No matter what you choose - be very sure to make at least 2 separate copies of important files such as these, using 2 pieces of storage media. I have had SD cards, external disk drives, and USB flash drives all go bad! I wouldn't trust any one of them to be my only safe copy.

(If you own an SD card reader you can carry with you, then that matters less.) USB drives and SD cards come with different amounts of storage--look on the package for 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, etc. Someone who knows your computer system should be able to help you figure out how much storage you need for your photos. Photo files can be large and hopefully you will keep amassing them, so overbuy if you can. USB 2 drives are cheaper than USB 3 drives, but they are much, much slower. (It takes a lot longer to copy files to/from them.) Most importantly, make a back-up of those precious files! I keep my family photos stored on two external drives. When I make any change to one drive, I make it on the other. Good luck!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. My wife also does genealogy & I know how much work it can be. In her case we picked up a pair of Seagate 4TB drives at Walmart. The important thing to remember is all the effort that went into collecting the data. Being retired IT & having to worry about security, I am skeptical about how secure online services are & do not feel comfortable with a single copy of the backup so the 2nd copy of the data is at my son’s apartment (about once a month I retrieve the drive from my son & clone that drive from the one connected to my wife’s computer. I probably could have saved some money catching a sale at Best Buy but it was one of the cases where my wife was worried about losing her data should something go wrong.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This USB is 128 GB of storage which is a great size. The higher the “GB” number the more pictures or files it holds. USB 3.0 have faster transfer rate than Sd cards... which means u don’t have to wait too long to transfer ur files or pics to the USB. I definitely suggest USB 3.0 and pick the size (GB) that is best.... that USB 128 we got for $19 I thought was a great deal... hope this helps :)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can use either, but a USB drive is likely easier. The amount of pictures you can save will depend on the GB you choose, the higher the number the more you can store! Hope this helps!
