This is a difficult question to answer. What format are you storing your recordings. FLAC, WAV, other uncompressed format or a compressed format such as mp3? There are so many variations of compression and how much they actually compress each individual recording. So you are asking a question that is very difficult to give a precise number. Unless you are recording everyday … Multiple versions or takes and not using compression you will have plenty of space for years to come. Most likely the drive will die long before you have it filled. Wav file 10.1Mb per minute approximately. Uncompressed so 12TB (12,000,000,000) 1.2 trillion minutes of music/ 20,000,000 hours of music / 833,333.3 days of music. No matter what always plan for a backup as well. Compression will double or better the amount. You are looking at lots of storage.

Please try again later.The answer to your questions, is going to depend on a number of factors that are not present in your question: 1) How long is the average song that you'll be storing 2) What sampling rate will you be using? 3) What format will you be using to store the songs? 4) Will the format be lossless or lossy? 5) If the format is lossless, what bitrate will you be using? 6) Will there be graphical tag data involved and if so what will be the average size of the graphical data (i.e., will the average image file be the size of a JPG thumbnail (about 12 KB) or will the songs include full size PNG files with lyrics, album info, etc (can exceed tens of megabytes or more depending on the images captured))? Not having the above information makes it very difficult to answer the question, however, if I assume that you'll be storing your music in a standard 320kbps 44.1KHz sampled MP3 lossy format with an average song length of three and half minutes, you'll be able to store roughly 1,1 million songs. Again, that's an assumption but it gives you a general idea of what you can do. Likewise, if you'll be using 24-bit FLAC or ALAC, at 192KHz, you're storage capacity decreases dramatically: you'll be able to store approximately 60,000 songs assuming an average length of three and a half minutes. Obviously, there are for too many variables to provide a definitive answer to your question but I hope this gives you some idea of what you'll be able to do with the drive and I hope it helps you decide on which drive to purchase.
