There is little information on this, but almost positive it is SMR. In saying that, writes and rewrites have been very fast. If shucked, I have personally seen over 500MBps on a Dell 13th gen server with PERC card sustained for over 5TB of writes, so you know caching isn't the culprit. Rewrites suffer to happy that speed as expected, but the sheer write heads and platters still made for over 200MBps writes, plenty fast for archive data. Love these drives so far.
