Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I got lucky because I was able to get this for less than $190 during the black Friday sales, I mainly use it for my playstation gameplay videos when I transfer them to my computer, my pc is a 15+ year ago computer with 1TB so this comes in handy, I'll be looking for a new pc setup next

Drive failed the WD Utils Complete Drive Test
|Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality1 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Normally I'm a fan of WD, but we always test our hard drives before using them. This unit FAILED the Complete Drive Test (full media scan) in the official WD Utilities tool. We ran the test twice, and the drive failed both times. :( Hopefully Best Buy just got a bad batch around the holidays. We will be exchanging the bad drives soon and will test the replacements as well.

Not a true 14tb drive. Know what your buying.
Posted .Features
Quality1 out of 5Value1 out of 5Ease of Use1 out of 5This is a 12.7tb drive not a 14tb drive. WD doesn't use the MS Standard most other manufactures do, so its calculation issue. They can call it what they want, but you dont get 14tb of storage as you would with 90% of other manufactures. I just wish I had known that, I would have jumped on a true 12tb drive and higher quality brand/model. Will likely return this later this week.

A place for my files

Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5With apologies to George Carlin... I filled up my easyStore 10TB a while ago, so offloaded to another drive. Thus was looking for additional capacity. 12TB's were on sale occasionally, but decided to wait for the 14TB. Who knows when or if a 16TB easyStore will arrive. And my wait was rewarded recently. Ordered it on 3/17. Initially said it would ship in a week, but shipped on 3/19 from the Chicago area, got it the next day in SE Minnesota via Fedex. Inside a larger shipping box with inflatable bags to fill the empty space to keep the external drive box from sliding around. I ordered it so I didn't have to run clear across town to the local BB. Plus avoided the city sales tax as I am outside the city limits in a township. If there are problems I can still return/exchange it to/at the local BB instead of paying to ship it back. CrystalDiskInfo reports WDC WD140EMFZ-11A0WA0 5400 RPM. Firmware revision 81.00A81 Windows properties has Capacity: 14,000,517,541,888 bytes 12.7 TB First is decimal (1000's) second is binary (1024's) Divide the first by 1024 enough times and you will end up with 12.7 Powerbrick is still 12V 1.5A, but is rotated 90 degrees compared to the 10TB brick. Will fit better on a typical power strip, leaves more room. But at 1.2 inches wide at the base the bricks can't be adjacent, at least on my power strip. And the brick also partially covers the next ground pin. But a two wire plug should fit between them. First thing I did was run ChkDsk: 20:33:38.65 Fri 03/20/2020 C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk f: /f /r The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is WD 14TB. Then I ran WD Drive Utilities Complete Drive Test. That took about 23 hours to run. Lastly I ran HGST DFT (Drive Fitness Test) SMART Extended Test. That also took about 23 hours to run. In conclusion ChkDsk /f /r is by far the more thorough test. (Used Auto Screen Capture and MouseJiggle to capture the screens and to keep Windows 10 updating the windows. Standalone exe's, no installation needed.) Robocopy'ing (multi-GB size files) from the aforementioned offloaded drive to the 14TB was running around 110 MB/s write speed. Both connected to the same Sunix USB4300NS USB 3 card. Took a combined time of 27 hours to copy 9.58 TB from the offloaded drive and the easyStore 10TB to the 14TB. Had some three wire Thermaltake TT-1225 case fans removed from a disposed case. Mounted them on bolts to blow up into the enclosure. Pretty quiet. During the robocopy, the 14TB was 27 degrees. The other drive, 7200 RPM, in an Orico 6619S3-US-BK open dock, was 42 degrees. So far, so good...

Backup of backups that are backed up
|Posted .Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5I've had a lot of storage (not RAM) over the years, so the need for a 14 TB hard drive was a bit shocking. I'm hoping this will be my last backup drive for a while. It works great, no installation for a fellow that enjoys electronics. Sometimes I look at my drive, just sitting there... blinking quietly; it warms my cold robotic heart. Thanks for holding on to my data, new friend.

WD Ext 14TB HDD
|Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5The unit was easy to set up. The capacity of it is a 14 TB external hard drive. I split the drive in half so that I could use the space for movies and pictures. It seems to have a low center of gravity so it stands up easy. The connections with simple and durable. The software made the connection to the computer convenient. I've had the unit on for two days straight and it doesn't seem to even get hot.

Q: QuestionIs this a 14 TB? The photos above show only 12.7 TB available !!
Asked by SherryS87.
- A:Answer Operating systems usually report drive capacity in a scale based on powers of 1024. However, drives are usually advertised with the capacity quoted in a shorter scale based on powers of 1000, resulting in a larger number. This accounts for most of the difference.
