You are correct. The USB cable provides both power and data transfer for this device. No separate power hookup/cable is used or needed.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I’ll jump in at this point. The connector format is USB, but the type of connection at the drive itself is USB micro-b Superspeed. This connector is ok except it has inherent problems with durability, and as such, once worn will render the drive useless. Expect that if not right away, then eventually, the drive cannot be moved while in use. Even bumping it inadvertently could result in drive disconnection error. Fair warning only, it has been my experience with this connection over the past decade with many of these connectors. I will never again buy a drive controller with this connector.
