Hi Frank, To setup the backup jobs on your computer we would recommend you to use WD backup application for windows. WD Backup is an easy-to-use backup application. It automatically protects your files, photos and documents with on premise backups to a WD drive as primary storage. Off-premise backups to a cloud as secondary storage for disaster recovery purpose. As I recall it comes on the drive. Or you can download your needed version (Windows, Mac, etc.) from Western Digital (https://support.wdc.com/downloads.aspx?DL) - it's free. Install the WD Discovery app and it will guide you through the rest. It will detect the external drive and tell you which apps to download, and it will automatically check for updates. The WD Backup app allows you to pick exactly what you want to back up from whole drives down to the file level. It will then automatically backup the data at intervals you choose. So for instance, put all your tax files in a folder, select that folder for automatic backup, and your worries are over. If you ever need to restore something you have "lost" it couldn't be simpler - far superior to Microsoft Backup and Restore / File History, in my experience.
