If you only plan to use for pictures and files you can do this. If you plan to use for ps4 games you need to format solely for this purpose.

Some WiFi hubs like the Apple Airport have a usb port to which you can attach a standard external drive like this and make it a network drive that can be accessed simultaneously by several devices. As I live in the Mac world, I am not well versed on the corresponding PC solution, but I am sure it exists. There are also Network Attached Drives (NAS storage). Those have an ethernet port and attach to your network for the same results. Just be aware that a drive on the network will not be as fast as a directly connected drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The PS4 will require you to format the hard drive (meaning erase it completely) before using it. I would recommend getting a seperate hard drive for your PS4.
