The EasyStore drive is FAR more likely to fail than the cable included with it. Quite the opposite with the WD My Passport. Easy decision.

There should be no worries of losing data. I've been using mine for nearly a year every single day and have no problems, but always backup everything in multiple places.

If too many usb devices are plugged on the same computer especially laptop, it’s possible that it could become unstable or flaky. It depends on the hardware used, Gaming laptop obviously has better hardware/ power supply source than chrome book or surface. Data should remain on the drive unless the drive itself fails to spin or internal R/W heads break.
