- Answer The drive is powered through a USB port in the host (such as a computer) so long as the host is powered the drive will be too. Otherwise no.

- Answer As long as the cord you attached to it is compatible with a standard USB cable there should be no problem. The drive itself can be formatted to whatever you need. I don't work for Western Digital so I can only tell you what I know. Good luck
