Greetings: I saw your question only today. I hope my response is timely/helpful. I assume it is a 10 TB (not 10 GB, as you have written) drive. I have a Windows laptop. I had a similar problem of the drive not being detected/recognized. A new driver from wd.com was downloaded and installed. Since then it has worked fine. These are simpler drives with a long-established design. They should not fail easily.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Some Mac USB ports read these drives differently than others. Try switching to another port and see if that works. If so, keep using that port. If not, run Disk Utility.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Repeated clicking sounds by a hard drive is almost always a dead hard drive. If that's the case, it would make sense that you wouldn't see it mount on the desktop of this or any other Mac. if you just bought this drive, please bring it back to the store for a replacement.
