- Answer Hi MissingSpace, Please know that while dealing with Windows and Mac-based systems, you will commonly see both decimal measurements and binary measurements of a drive's capacity. In either case, a drive's capacity is measured by using the total number of bytes available on the drive. As long as the drive displays the correct number of bytes (approximate), you are getting the drive's full capacity. QuestionHow noisy is this drive? I would be using it in a room where we often watch movies, etc. A loud drive would be a real problem. Thanks.

- Answer This specific drive here makes absolutely no noise whatsoever. It only has a little led light that flashes here’s Nd there but as for the noise there is none.

QuestionI have a Mac mini version 10.9.5 OS X . I bought a My Book 10 GB external HD. Connected HD but computer does not read hard drive or show an icon on screen. I hear Hard drive is making a clicking sound.Is this HD broke or incompatible? Pls advise.

- Answer Greetings: I saw your question only today. I hope my response is timely/helpful. I assume it is a 10 TB (not 10 GB, as you have written) drive. I have a Windows laptop. I had a similar problem of the drive not being detected/recognized. A new driver from wd.com was downloaded and installed. Since then it has worked fine. These are simpler drives with a long-established design. They should not fail easily.

QuestionWhat must be done to make this work with a MAC with an older OS?. Is it compatible with older MAC OS's and Time Machine? Is there a downside to buying a drive with a lot of memory and have a chunk go unused because you only need 4 or5 TB right now?

- Answer yes. you MIGHT have to format (erase) it using disk utility. but once you do that. it will be great. (i do that with any new external drive anyway). when erasing, choose: - osx journaled if you only plan to use it with macs - exfat if you plan to use it with both mac and windows

QuestionI need more storage for my DAW and plugins. Many of these programs can use a bit of system resources and memory. For instance, the newest iteration of Studio One 5 will require 500GB of memory. Will this HDD run well live for labor intensive apps?

- Answer You don't necessarily have to buy a new cable. They make USB-A to USB-C adapters that will work for connecting the hard drive to the mac.
