Customers are saying

Customers praise the My Book 10TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive for its large storage capacity, ease of use, and quiet operation. Many appreciate its good price and the convenience of the USB connection. While some find the size a bit large, the positive feedback on storage, usability, and quietness outweighs this concern. The hardware encryption feature is also a frequently mentioned plus.

    Excellent External Hard Drive

Important. This is a USB 3.0 capable drive and for this review I had a USB 3.0 port to plug this Hard Drive into. This hard drive is extremely easy to set up. I just plugged it in and then it was seen by the computer system. I also changed the file format from EXFAT to NTFS. It could have been used the way it was but I like the additional security and NTFS is the recommended format for windows 10. Many videos on YouTube on how to do that so will not get into that. Just know it is not necessary to change from EXFAT to NTFS. I had two 4 TB external network hard drives that I had been backing up all of my stuff to over and over again. I was able to move files from each of the network hard drives unto the new 10TB drive in a completely new folder arrangement like video folder audio folder document folder music folder etc. I found out that my two 4TB drives once cleaned up resulted in only 2 TB of total storage used on the 10 TB drive. I then formatted my two network drives and copied over from the 10 TB drive back to the two 4 TB drives and placed them in storage on a shelf. I would strongly recommend getting this drive for its speed, ease of use, and for being quiet.

I've been using two of these drives for backing up my PCs for the past few months. They have been working well without issue using the backup software that comes with the drive (actually on the drive). It is easy to setup and use. Getting it on-sale was a bonus!

While it's a bit big, this HD is quite the value. Solid space, quiet operation, works with many systems, and has the reputation of lasting for many, many years. Great purchase!

Converting old VHS tapes to digital sure takes up a lot of space! I had no issues getting this drive setup for use. Transferred 1TB of videos with easy. Western Digital is my go to brand.

WD 10TB external HD, I am currently using it to store games for my Xbox One. Very easy set up, plug power cord into socket other end into HD. Plug USB into Xbox and HD. My Xbox asked me what I wanted to do with it, selected my option and done. Immediately moved all my games onto external, took maybe 5-10 minutes to set everything up. Very quiet too, I don’t even hear it running.

Was able to set it up quickly. Very fast when moving file around and not as big as I expected. Takes up just a little more space than one of my smaller hard drives it replaced.

Terrifically useful for backups! It's fast and quiet. I only have a 1TB drive on my computer and so I thought that a 10TB external drive as a backup system would last for years. All the backup software I have though creates backups that are bigger than the original and I'm already having to reduce the amount of detail kept in y backup history.

I've had a dozen external hard drives over the years. This one is by far the biggest (in terms of capacity) and also the fastest. I was able to transfer two terabytes of files (much of which is music and videos) in half the time that it took to transfer with my previous external and much less data transferring. Highly recommend.

Western Digital is a great product and the 10T external drive is no different. The drive was great. However, I did have to reformat it so that it would boot up on my PC. It comes as exFAT so that it could be used on both a MAC or PC. However, my PC would not boot up without unplugging the WD Mybook, until I reformatted it to NTFS. After that? Works like a charm!

The drive is very quiet when it is running - so quiet that it is hard to discern whether it is running. Of course, the head movement clicks can be heard clearly. I wish there was an LED or similar to indicate power ON status but there is none. Initial installation was difficult. It was not plug-and-play. My laptop was not recognizing the drive. A new driver from wd.com had to be downloaded and installed for proper installation. Hence four stars but, otherwise, it gets five stars.

I have purchased many things from Best Buy, it's my go-to company to buy all sorts of things, not unlike this external hard drive from Western Digital. I bought this drive to supplement my ability to back up my many video projects and many other things I needed to have stored in a safe place. This drive was easy to set up on my Mac and it was a seamless install, and the drive continues to operate flawlessly in my system. It isn't my first WD drive and won't be my last!

I bought this Western Digital 10TB external hard drive to compliment my WD 6TB external hard drive that I bought many years ago. I used to work for Western Digital as an engineer and know the quality of their products. The installation of the drive was easy. I just plugged it into the USB 3.0 port on my computer and I was immediately able to access it. I was able to download more than 5 terabytes of data without any issues. I highly recommend this product.

This is exactly what I needed to upgrade my 8 Tera disk. I always keep 3 copies of my files, one off site. I am getting closer to 1 million files (photos, family videos, letters, postcards and family tree files). WD has been very reliable. I always grow out of space before the drive shows any signs of problems. Only one thing: as my computer is kind of old and the drive came exFAT formated , I had to reformat it to NTSF before adding files to it or my bios will not start my computer.
