“I have a 3TB WD MyCloud and want to add another external drive to it. Should I simply get a 4TB internal drive, put it in an enclosure and plug it into the USB port or do I need to get another MyCloud drive which requires software & setup ro add it by USB”

MyCloud drive failed after 5 years so I didn't want to go through the installations and hassles of MyCloud, so I bought the plain "WD bacjkup drive". If you have USB port open this drive will not disappoint you.
