Absolutely, I use it in a similar manner. I have a small form factor short term backup 4TB drive that I keep handy. I back up to the 4TB drive and then weekly I transfer files from it to the 8TB for long term storage. You could do the same with your 1TB drive. Keep in mind this 8TB is not intended to be running constantly like a network drive, it's best to back up data to it and then remove it. In my case, I leave it connected until I power down the computer then disconnect it and put it back in a cabinet where I store it, it's only on long enough for the file transfer, no more than an hour or two per week.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you have more than enough room. If you would like to keep your data separate for each 1TB drive, just make directories for each drive and copy drive data to the appropriate directory.

The questions are: 1) How do you want to perform the backup? You could do a simple file/directory copy, but depending on how you do it, you wouldn't necessarily get hidden and all system files. Alternatively, you could use any number of backup software products. 2) What operating system are you running? If it's MacOS, you could set up the 8TB drive to use Time Machine. 3) What are your goals for your backups? Are you thinking about just a one-time offload of your 1TB drive, or do you want to set up something that will do scheduled or regular backups? If the former, then you might be fine just doing a simple file/directory copy. If the latter, you'll likely want to use some sort of backup software.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't see why you couldn't back up whatever just as long as TB are higher
