• Those are two different "Clouds". iCloud is Apple and MyCloud is WD. So they are entirely separate deals, purchases, software, etc..

• You do not have to purchase an iCloud account but you will need an existing dropbox or other Cloud account to take advantage of this product's features. You can use the included WD Cloud software to create your own cloud or software from other developers if you prefer.

• No, you can skip the iCloud as long as you do not want to use thier Cloud service and just use it on your local network...
