Yes the device has a USB connect that could backup your external drive (flashdrive, HDD and others).

i plugged my external WD Passport 4TB into the device. it did not worked well until a unplugged it. So i would not recommend it.

It does not have an auto backup feature. You can however use any software just as Norton Ghost to clone the current hard drive and move everything over to the new one if you wish.

Yes, it does have an "auto backup feature." However, it is contingent upon your Time Machine settings.
