The hard drive can stand alone because it runs on your network using a ethenal cable but if you don't have a computer and or your network isn't hocked up to the internet I don't now what use this hard drive would be

However, you will need some device on your network to log in and configure it. That device can be a desktop computer, laptop, tablet, or even a cell phone.
