I didn't have any issues buffering the video to my iPhone 6 Plus or my iPad. A friend of mine used his Android tablet to watch a few movies while on vacation. As far as speed of the HDD. It is plenty fast enough. The network connection / wifi connection is just like any other wireless device. The closer you are to the HDD the better. I actually watched a few movies on the pier at our summer cabin. The wireless drive was inside the house and I was outside, a few hundred feet away. No problems. If you are at all technical, you can figure out how to add it to your in home or portable router and expand the coverage even more.
