Good question and one that helped me learn something about the WD drive I just purchased. WD Discovery is the difference, according to the manufacturer. WD Discovery can see online storage services and automatically connect to those services to allow backup tp the WD drive and make for right click + copy and paste or drag and drop file management through Windows Explorer. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I asked in the store, the answer I received was that the Ultra is compatible directly with PC and MAC without any formatting. The regular one is only PC compatible unless you want to wipe/format the drive. - not sure how true but the MAC I use is stationary, the PC travels, so I did the regular one.
