• I asked the same thing. There is some additional software from WD for auto backup etc.. It wasn't worth the extra money to me. Both drives specs are similar and perform similarly

• The easy share drive requires power using an AC adapter. This means that it’s a desktop drive. The portable drive is powered by USB only which allows you to power the drive without finding an electrical outlet
