“Can I use a SD card to USB adapter to directly txfr photos from my SD card onto the external drive? I want to be able to directly save photos I take from the camera's SD card to this drive while out in the field (avoid having to carry laptop with me if possible).”

If your camera has feature or software to connect external hard drive, you can transfer those pictures into hard drive without laptop.

Please try again later.I don't see how this would be possible, seeing as how there is no interface/device between the SD card and the hard drive to initiate the transfer should you be connecting directly. Not to be crass, but what would be the point of transferring if you're going to access them later by computer?
