• Yes, I didn't need to format it. My MacBook Pro recognized it it after I plugged it into my laptop.

• It is. All hard drives are, but this one is already formatted in Mac OS Extended. Most drives are formatted for PCs, but the Mac can read and write to them anyway.

• It is, as are other non-Mac specific drives which will be seen by a Mac when plugged in. There is some Mac software included, but you may want to use disk utility to format the drive into both a Mac partition as well as an ex-Fat partitiion so you can share files with Windows and other computers. For instance, you can partition a 100GB or some other size section and have the rest as a Mac partition so you can move files back and forth between Mac and Windows or other computers. If you select ex-FAT for the other partition, you can move files bigger than 4GB, which is the limit for FAT drives.
