Probably you have a laptop with 32GB storage, windows 10 (the upgrade to the next version 1903) needs at least 8GB of space, having the external SSD it won't fix your problem. The best solution would be (save in the external SSD all your important files) wipe out the internal storage , install the last version of Windows 10 (1903) then install all the software you use in the external SSD.
