To be honest it’s just a hard drive and I have the wd model and it’s awesome probably the only difference is how they look
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just use the regular WD, no need to buy a "special" HD for your PS
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just bought a WD easystore 1TB for my PS4. Guy at BB said I would have to configure myself on PC before connecting to PS4 if i didn't get the pre-formatted version. I tried that and there was no formatting options. It was just plug and play right into the PS4 with the click of a few on screen buttons. Note that the easystore works as extended storage for game downloads. Save data still writes to the internal drive. Not sure if the PS4 formatted version is any different. I am thinking this was marketed prior to the PS4 4.50 release which now supports external plug and play...and it is a way to charge a little more.

I'm not sure and questioned that myself, but it may be that is specifically designed / programmed for the PlayStation to be recognized and act as a seamless memory storage without additional steps or concerns about generic storage options. Again, I'm not totally sure and perhaps some other reviews or technical guidelines may help. I think other storage options will work fine, but believe this is a seamless storage option and have been very pleased with it. Good luck.
