I almost did the same thing, I first installed the My Passport on my old computer with Windows Vista and bought a brand new computer when the old one was starting to slow down, I had to install Windows 10 on the new one and plugged the My Passport in during the middle of the Windows 10 installation, === Try plugging the My Passport into another computer and see how it works and if Windows 10 is in the files, it might reboot the My passport so you can plug it into the computer you want to put Windows 10 on and be able to load it.

If you "downloaded" the installer or an ISO to your passport it would not have hidden other files. If however you created media for installing Windows 10 and specified your passport as the target location you very likely wiped the passport and created a bootable image on the drive in place of your data.

If so, the data that was on the drive before installation of Windows 10 has been written over. There may still be a chance to use commercial-grade recovery software and tools to recover the data, but it's a long, expensive shot. Moreover, If Windows 10 has been running on the external drive, then your recovery chance decreases since Windows 10 will have written over the data area as many times as you booted up Windows 10. You can try to plug this drive into another computer with recovery software installed and see if you can read the deleted data (using recovery software). Good luck!
