“I want to use this like a regular hard drive but i need to be rid of the wire. My laptop is a convertible & I use it for art so the wires & dongles really get in the way a lot. Can this be used the same as a regular portable hard drive minus the usb cord?”

That is how I use it with my Windows computer. It works ok but see my review if interested.
