I would not recommend a WeMo switch directly in line for a freezer. You would introduce another possible source of failure between your freezer and the power power source. You could insert the WeMo into the adjacent outlet, so the freezer is still directly plugged into the wall, but I’m not sure if the WeMo alert for “off” is triggered by a power outage or if it is only triggered by the smart outlet actively being turned off. I’ll have to test it!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We had a power outage recently and no, the device does not notify you. However, the WeMo app will show you which devices are disconnected (or no power source). I went to the gym during the power outage and just monitored the app to see when the plugs came back online - meaning the power was back on.

The Wemo Insight doesn't alert you if the outlet loses power, however, it can send out usage alerts to let you know when the Wemo Insight is On, Off (standby) or when the power has been ON for a duration of your choice.

I think a better question that might address your need would be “does it notify me if the connection to the network or internet is lost?” I don’t have this item so I can’t tell you but I have nest cameras and when they loose connection to the network/internet, the Nest app notifies me after 10 minutes.
