Does this tv need a digital converter box? null

It has a tuner built in. But you may want to use a separate tuner box if, say, you are in a fringe area with weak OTA channels and you can find a tuner box that can work with weak signals better than the built-in tuner can. (I am using a separate box just for OTA channels because the box tunes in weak signals and thus provides more OTA channels than I can get with just an antenna hooked to the TV.) Or, for cable systems, most of them are moving toward encrypted content and you soon might not be able to receive any cable channels at all without a rental box from the cable company, or a Roku device + cable company's app (like Spectrum offers.)
