“My dishwasher door will not lay flat when it's opened .Almost as if the door hinges have springs in them .Should it be this way?”

If you look at the instruction manual, you can see how you can adjust the springs. Basically you pull the dishwasher out and you will see a spring on either side connected to the base. There are a series of holes that you can move the spring to. Towards the door will lessen the tension and away will increase it. It sounds like yours it too tense. Try moving the spring towards the doors a slot or two (both side equally) until you get the tension you like. You shouldn't have to have the lower rack out just to keep the door from closing.
