“Can the ice maker unit actually be removed from the freezer so as not to take up extra freezer space?”

• Hello Susan. You cannot take the Ice Maker out of the Freezer.

• Some also have the automatic defrost in The ice maker so I'm not sure of that answer because we use the ice maker .

• you could turn it off and remove the ice container or call a service person and have it removed
